How to Prepare for the Best Brazilian Wax: A Smooth Experience from Start to Finish

Let’s be honest, brazilian waxes have a bit of a reputation. Whether it's your first time or your fiftieth, there's always a little anticipation and a lot of questions. At 1928 Skin Co., we specialize in providing professional, discreet, and high-quality brazilian waxes that leave you feeling confident, clean, and empowered.

But what’s the secret to the best Brazilian wax? It's not just what happens on the treatment table, it's how you prepare beforehand. So, here’s your go-to guide to getting waxed like a pro.

1. Let It Grow (Yes, Really)

To get the smoothest results, your hair should be about the length of a grain of rice, at least 1/4 inch long. That usually means about 2 to 3 weeks of growth from your last shave. If your hair is too short, the wax won’t grip properly. If it’s too long, trimming may be needed (don’t worry, I’ll handle it if necessary).

Pro Tip: Step away from the razor. Shaving before your appointment makes waxing more painful and less effective.

2. Exfoliate, But Gently

A light exfoliation the night before your wax helps lift dead skin cells and prevents ingrown hairs. Use a gentle scrub, dry brush, or a chemical exfoliant. Just make sure it’s nothing too harsh.

Avoid exfoliating the day of your appointment to prevent irritation.

3. Skip the Lotions & Oils

On the day of your wax, keep the bikini area clean and product-free. Lotions, oils, or heavy creams can interfere with how well the wax adheres to the hair.

Clean skin = better wax adhesion = smoother results.

4. Time It Right

Try not to schedule your wax around your period if you’re sensitive. Your skin is more tender during that time, and waxing can feel more intense. However, if you’re comfortable, we can absolutely still wax you - just wear a tampon or cup, and let us know.

Also, plan your wax at least 2-3 days before a beach trip, honeymoon, or big event to allow any redness or sensitivity to calm down.

5. Take a Pain-Reliever If Needed

If you’re nervous about discomfort, taking an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your appointment can help ease inflammation and sensitivity.

6. Know What to Expect

Brazilian waxes remove all hair from the front, back, and everything in between but we can customize it to your comfort level (some clients like to leave a strip or triangle). Communication is everything. We are here to make you feel safe, heard, and respected throughout the process.

First-timer? Don’t worry! We’ll walk you through each step.

7. Wear Loose, Breathable Clothing

After your wax, your skin may be a little sensitive. Tight clothing, synthetic fabrics, and friction can lead to irritation. Opt for cotton panties or go commando under loose pants or a dress for the rest of the day.

8. No Gym, Sauna, or Hot Showers After

Avoid heat, sweat, friction, and bacteria for 24 hours post-wax. That means no workouts, steam rooms, tanning beds, or hot baths right away. Give your skin time to breathe and calm down.

Bonus: Keep Up With Aftercare

For long-term smoothness and healthy skin:

  • Exfoliate 2–3 times a week starting 3 days post-wax

  • Moisturize daily with an ingrown-safe product

  • Avoid shaving between waxes to maintain hair growth cycles
